    Adrift Film Tie In

    Mcgearhart,Susea
    Kiadó: Harper Collins *
Young and in love, their lives ahead of them, Tami Oldham and her fiancé Richard Sharp set sail from Tahiti under brilliant blue skies, with Tami's hometown of San Diego as their ultimate destination. But the two free spirits and avid sailors couldn'tanticipate that less than two weeks into their voyage, they would sail directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. They found themselves battling pounding rain, waves the size of skyscrapers, and 140 knot winds. Richardtethered himself to the boat and sent Tami below to safety, and then all went eerily quiet. Hours later, Tami awakened to find the boat in ruins, and Richard nowhere in sight.Adrift is the story of Tami's miraculous forty-one-day journey to safety on a ravaged boat with no motor and no masts, and with little hope for rescue. It's a tale of love and survival on the high seas- an unforgettable story about resilience of thehuman spirit, and the transcendent power of love.

    Sentimental Education (Owc)* (2016)

    Flaubert,Gustav
    Kiadó: Oxford University Press
A new translation of one of the most important of all French novels, admired for its artistry and its impact on the history of the genreFlaubert's portrait of an idealistic but indecisive protagonist suggests that in a disenchanted bourgeois world heroism can only be imagined in ironic terms. Fr'ed'eric Moreau's abortive search for fulfilment through love, art, and politics has newthings to say in today's postmodern, ostensibly post-ideological ageFlaubert's experiments with form and narrative techniques inspired modernist writers in particular, and inspired the later experiments of Proust and JoyceHelen Constantine's translation is faithful and eminently readablePatrick Coleman's introduction incorporates recent research into the genesis of Flaubert's novel as well as current critical interest in the fictional representation of historical events and Flaubert's place in the history of literary modernismThe edition includes extensive explanatory notes, an Historical Sketch clarifying the relation between the sequence of fictional and historical events, a Glossary of Historical Figures and an up-to-date bibliography

Perhaps the best known 'sensation novel' of all time, East Lynne is a fast-paced tale of suspense and melodrama featuring adultery, a villainous seducer, illegitimacy, murder, deception and disguiseThe first modern edition to reproduce the first, three-volume edition of 1861 which preserved the racy, slang-ridden flavour of Wood's orignal narrative which was subsequently toned down to make the novel more refinedElisabeth Jay's introduction discusses sensation literature, the marriage laws of the time, fears of social promiscuity and middle-class anxieties, Ellen Wood's career and the long after-life of the novel on stage and screeenUp-to-date bibliography and helpful notes

    Silas Marner (Owc) (2017)*

    Eliot,George
    Kiadó: Oxford University Press
This edition, which uses the 1878 Cabinet edition, is based on the last edition for which Eliot provided corrections.A fresh introduction that places the novel in its biographical, intellectual, and critical context, while also paying close attention to the nuances and patterns of the work. It considers, in particular, the themes of memory and parenthood, thecombination of realism and fable, the novel's preoccupation with mystery and interpretation, its focus on habits, and Eliot's extraordinarily complex use of the imagery of threads and weaving. The 'note on the text' offers a clearer and more accurate account of the novel's publication history than can be found in other editions. There are extensive and clearly presented textual variants which are not found in other editions. These have drawn on archival research in the British Library and the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas.Up-to-date Bibliography and detailed explanatory notes.New to this Edition:Introduction by Juliette Atkinson, informed by the latest critical and scholarly thinking on the novel.New and expanded Notes.

    Red-Haired Woman

    Pamuk,Orhan
    Kiadó: Faber and Faber Ltd.
I found it disappointing. Compared with Pamuk's previous work, I consider this one hurried, insufficiently polished, lacking the elegance and mystery of the author's previous novels. As I was reading it, I felt hurt by the absence of true imagery, theoppression of a didactic tone, the lack of true and sustained introspection. It was also clogged with literary references that diminished the authenticity of the hero's quest. The moments of the novel that I enjoyed were quite rare - definitely the workof a journalist rather than the master story-teller of not so long ago.
